Wags step proudly into pages of new dictionary

The phrases credit crunch, food miles and wardrobe malfunction have made it into the new Chambers Dictionary.

Several words referring to the environment such as carbon footprint, green tax, electrosmog (electro-magnetic fields emitted by computers and mobiles) and eco-village appear in the 11th edition. Social networking, Wags and nail bars also appear in the revised dictionary. The war on terror provides the words blueon-blue, extraordinary rendition and watch list.

Pad thai, comfort food, and dashi (a clear stock flavoured with kelp) are also included.

Dictionary editor-in-chief Mary O'Neill said: "The words we added to this 11th edition paint a vivid picture of current interests and concerns."
