Vote ‘could destabilise’ Royal Institution

The future of the Royal Institution was on a knife edge today as members prepared to vote on the biggest crisis in its 211-year history.

Britain's leading scientists will gather in the RI's Faraday lecture theatre this evening to vote on a motion that could entirely replace its leadership.

The Institution said this could result in "permanent destabilisation" of the organisation as it tries to recover its financial health.

Supporters of the RI's former director, Baroness Greenfield, who was made redundant in January, called the general meeting.
