Vosper in job-save talks

12 April 2012

VOSPER Thornycroft's negotiations with the Government and with fellow shipbuilder BAE Systems to safeguard hundreds of jobs at Portsmouth are expected to be concluded before the year-end, chief executive Martin Jay said.

Britain's second biggest shipbuilder hopes to get a larger share of work on the revolutionary Type 45 destroyer. The biggest share of the £4.3bn contract has gone to BAE Systems but Vosper is hoping to get £300m worth of work.

Vosper's order book was a record £1.1bn in the six months to September but pre-tax profits fell to £15.4m from £17.6m in the first half of last year. The interim dividend is up 7.1% to 11.25p.
