Virgin win in US trademark battle

SIR Richard Branson's Virgin Group has won a trademark battle in a US court, overturning a decision to allow shopping centre kiosks to use the name 'Virgin' to sell mobile phones.

The court found there was a likelihood of consumer confusion, saying Virgin was strongly identified with consumer electronic equipment. Virgin and US group Sprint have a joint venture, Virgin Mobile USA, that sells a pre-paid mobile service. It was launched nearly a year ago.
