Video game that will turn you into a home movie star

A new video game that lets players act out a role in their favourite film goes on sale tomorrow.

Participants in Yoostar 2 can play Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz, Top Gun's Maverick or even recreate Mike Tyson's Phil Collins singalong from
The Hangover.

They can also ad lib their own scenes in a variety of sets, including the bridge of the starship Enterprise.

The £45 game, for Xbox and PS3, uses a video camera connected to a console to "cut out" players electronically and put them on screen, where they act out a script and are marked on their performance. It has been developed with backing from Hollywood studios.

"Seeing yourself on screen is magical," said Greg Fischbach of maker Yoostar. "We knew if we could take Hollywood technology and put it in a home game that would be very powerful.

"Hollywood studios were keen to co-operate. We have 80 scenes in the box, with more to download, and we hope to add 10-20 new scenes each week."

Players can also upload their performances to a website or place them on Facebook and Twitter, where friends can vote on how well they did.

"We are competing with £300,000 equipment in a Hollywood studio, but we think it looks pretty good," said Mr Fischbach. "It's the first game of its kind and we want to expand it.

"We will be adding everything from sports to news, so you can take part in whatever you want."

It's wizard! How I acted out Oz fantasy!

It took quite a leap of imagination to transport myself from a room full of electrical gear in London to the Yellow Brick Road.

But suddenly I saw the Scarecrow saying he wanted the Wizard to give him a brain. And there was Dorothy. Only it wasn't Judy Garland - it was me. And below is the proof.

Yoostar 2 seems more a dress-up-and-pretend exercise than a computer game. But the real fun is in the finished product.

It doesn't quite fulfil the fantasy of actually being in your favourite film. But viewing it later you might just kid yourself you were there.
