Van driver in bomb threat

12 April 2012

A man claiming to have a bomb in a caravanette parked outside the headquarters of the Law Society brought chaos to part of central London today as police continued an overnight standoff.

The man, in his sixties, whose identity is not being revealed, parked the vehicle in Chancery Lane shortly before 6.30 last night. Police, including an armed response unit and negotiators, cordoned off the area. They were joined by firefighters and ambulance crews.

Met Deputy Assistant Commander Andy Trotter said the man, who was on his own, had a grievance against the legal profession and had demanded to see a senior figure within the Law Society.
