Marks & Spencer today showed it is on the road to recovery with a strong rise in profits for the first time in three years.

The group announced a core rise in profits of more than 20 per cent to £220.3 million for the six months to the end of September and said trading since has been good.

Customers have responded well to its autumn clothing range, including George Davies's new Per Una collection.
