Union 'nurse' campaign backfires

12 April 2012

A union campaign attacking Tony Blair's comments on public service "wreckers" backfired today as it emerged a "nurse" pictured in the advertisement is in fact a model.

The GMB campaign running in the Evening Standard and other newspapers shows a concerned nurse looking down on a baby.

A picture of Mr Blair fills the bottom half of the advert below the slogan "Is she one of the 'wreckers' Tony?".

It follows union anger after Mr Blair told Labour's spring conference at the weekend that reform of public services is a battle between "reformers and wreckers".

The GMB admitted the nurse was a model but said it was normal practice to prevent anyone being sacked since public sector workers would "be in breach of contract".
