Union ballots on post strike

London's postal system faces a summer of chaos after union leaders said they intend to ballot members on strike action.

The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) is threatening strikes unless Mick and Tom Doherty, postal workers sacked as alleged football hooligans, are reinstated. Two employment tribunals last year said the men were unfairly dismissed.

Strike action needs CWU's London executive committee's backing and approval by members in a ballot, but both are regarded as likely.

Any industrial action is not expected before May.
