Two women hunted for Eta terror bombing in Majorca

Suspec: Itziar Moreno Martinez and Iratxe Yanex Ortiz de Barron

The Spanish government today released photographs of six suspected Eta terrorists it believes were behind two bomb attacks in the last two days.

All six, two of them women, are thought to have come to Spain from France in recent weeks. The Basque separatist group is suspected of being behind the attacks.

The interior ministry named them as Itziar Moreno Martinez, Iratxe Yanez Ortiz de Barron, Alberto Machain Beraza, Oroitz Gurruchaga Gogorza, Joanes Larretxea Mendiola and Ivan Saez de Jauregui Ortigosa.

They are wanted in connection with the explosion in a packed Majorca resort yesterday, and the bomb which blew up a Civil Guard barracks in the city of Burgos on Wednesday.

Police in Majorca reportedly identified two suspects thought to have planted the bomb on the island which killed two Civil Guards. Government sources say they believe the pair are still in Majorca.

Spanish police are preparing to counter the terror campaign, meaning British holidaymakers face a summer of extra security measures.

Ibiza airport was evacuated today after a suspicious rucksack was found left next to a Civil Guard car. Bomb disposal experts were at the scene this afternoon. However, flights to Majorca resumed after the airport was closed following the bombing.

Prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has ordered the Civil Guard, the National Police and the security services to redouble their efforts against terrorism.

"The government has given instructions to the security forces to step up their vigilance to the maximum and to offer protection from these vile killers. They aren't going to escape justice. They're going to spend their lives in jail," he said.

It is thought the Majorca bomb was a limpet device activated at a distance.

An 11-year-old British boy saw a charred body being pulled from the car. Mitchell Van Dijk was lounging by a pool with his father Peter, brother Cameron and Maureen Mitchell, 34, Mr Van Dijk's partner.

Ms Mitchell said: "Suddenly there was a massive bang. Everyone was panicking. Kids were crying hysterically."
