Two families united in grief as a second son dies in gang violence

Brawl victim: Marvin Henry was shot in the chest in Mill Hill
12 April 2012

THE father of a boy kicked to death said today that he sympathised with the killers' parents - after their own son was murdered.

Kenny Page spoke out after teenager Marvin Henry was shot dead in a mass brawl in north London yesterday. The 17-year-old died when two gangs met in what police fear was a pre-planned showdown just after midnight.

The Evening Standard revealed yesterday that two brothers of Marvin Henry are in jail for the killing of 19-year-old Ian Page, Kenny Page's son.

Ian was beaten savagely by a gang in Colindale, for asking yobs to stop looking at a female friend. He died in hospital four days later.

Marvin Henry's brother Lloyd, 23, was jailed for eight years for manslaughter. Their half-brother Andre Campbell, then 24, and another man, Jermaine Yateman, 19, were sentenced to a minimum of 15 years for the murder.

Philip Henry, 21, another brother, was cleared of any involvement in the fatal attack.

Today Mr Page, from Neasden, spoke out to say that he sympathised with Marvin's family, calling the killing "a waste".

He said: "It is always a tragedy when a life is wasted. We know that. They have lost a young son and now will go through what we have, which is not very nice.

"It is bringing it all home to us again. You can't describe it. We have suffered the tragedy of losing one of our kids, and they will now understand what that feels like.

"We have obviously suffered, but he was a 17-year-old kid. That is the only thing to think about. It is a life wasted and it is going on everywhere."

Marvin Henry, who suffered a gunshot wound to his chest in the Mill Hill clash, was the 16th teenager to be murdered in London this year.

Ten young men and a woman arrested afterwards were released on bail today pending further inquiries.

Investigators suspect that more than a dozen young people had gathered with weapons in the area to fight over a long-running petty row.

The teenager, known as Spooky, was taken to Barnet General Hospital by ambulance but died on arrival. His killing comes a few weeks before the fourth anniversary of Mr Page's death - on November 12, 2006.

The Old Bailey was told that he was cornered by a gang, who kicked him until he collapsed. They returned to attack again, stealing a gold bracelet.
