TV channel offers no break from ads

13 April 2012

A TV channel with a difference - dedicated entirely to adverts - was announced today.

The Advert Channel promises the best of contemporary ads, as well as samples from the last four decades.

The co-founders cite research which suggests that 4,000 adverts are downloaded from the internet every day.

They promise the normal slot of paid for adverts, as well as advert gameshows.
Viewers will be able to take part in phone-ins to discuss which adverts inspire or irritate them.

Co-founder Chelsey Baker said: "This will be the world's first ever advert channel.

"Viewers actually find TV programmes quite boring and the adverts far more interesting.

"The idea came to us a couple of years ago. People love ads.

"They are absolutely infectious and until now there's never been a home for anybody to watch them."

She added: "Viewers will also be challenged to see if they can make adverts which can do better than those already out there.

"We watch hours and hours of adverts as a nation and compared to what they used to be, adverts are now something of an art form."

The Advert Channel is being launched on Sky on September 6.
