Tory MP punched in face

13 April 2012

Tory MP Sir Teddy Taylor is recovering after a voter punched him in the mouth.

Scotsman Sir Teddy, 66, was in Southend shopping for a kilt for Burn's Night today when the man shouted at him and struck him. The MP for Rochford and Southend East was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A man of 35 has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. Sir Teddy's wife Sheila said: "He's fine. The blow split his lip... there was a lot of blood. It's a hazard of the job if you have outspoken views."
