Ticket inspectors catch one fare dodger a day

Ticket inspectors are each catching only one fare dodger a day on the buses and Tube.

A total of 246,000 passengers have been caught since April 2000 across London's public transport network - 150 offenders a day, which is about the same as the number of inspectors.

The figures emerged today in a written answer from Mayor Ken Livingstone to the Liberal Democrats.

Fare dodging costs ?40million a year on the Tube and ?43million on the buses. Bendy buses are causing particular concern because they have three doors and passengers do not have to show a ticket as they get on.
