Thousands to flee as hurricane approaches

More than 100,000 people have been told to evacuate the North Carolina coast before the arrival of Hurricane Isabel.

Forecasters said Isabel was on course to hit the coast tomorrow and move northward through Virginia. A spokeswoman said winds had weakened from 160mph to 105mph but hurricanes are "notorious" for gaining strength as they approached the coast. "There's still a lot of potential for danger," she said.
