Third British serviceman killed in three days

12 April 2012

A soldier from 28 Engineer Regiment, attached to the elite Brigade Reconnaissance Force, died today following an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.

The soldier - the third British serviceman to die in three days - was killed in an explosion in the Nad-e Ali District of Helmand province. His next of kin have been informed.

The MoD said his death was connected to Operation Moshtarak, the major offensive to take back Taliban strongholds in the province. He is the fourth member of the British forces to die since the operation was launched two weeks ago with the aim of driving the Taliban from their stronghold around Marjah. There have been 266 British deaths in Afghanistan since 2001.
