Buyers wanting homes with seaside views are splashing out millions on coastal locations, estate agents have revealed.

Demand for shoreline properties is fuelling prices to surge, with some waterside houses commanding up to £5 million.

Such is their popularity, a two-bedroom semi with views across a golden beach, is now on the market for £1 million.

The sale is part of a multi-million-pound bonanza going on for homes in the West Country.

One agent said: "Waterside houses are big business.

"These are houses which have been valued at £3 million to £5 million and they are being snapped up.

"The top end of the market is bucking the rest of the stagnant trend."

Some of the prospective buyers are Russians with millions of rubles to spend on British property.

The £1 million house crammed into a terrace is in St Ives in west Cornwall.
