That, however, was Prince Charles's choice of gift for Ozzy Osbourne after his quad bike crash.

And while the gesture was much appreciated, it won't be the 55-year- old rocker who gets to enjoy it.

The royal gift was revealed by Osbourne's wife Sharon in a pre-recorded edition of her American TV chat show.

She told her audience: 'We heard from Prince Charles and - never let anyone say he's a bad guy 'cause he's all right by the Osbournes. He sent my husband a bottle of Scotch, which of course he's not going to drink.'

Mrs Osbourne, 51, has been off the air for a month while

staying in the UK to be with her husband.

Osbourne fractured his collarbone, eight ribs and a neck vertebra when the 600lb quad bike landed on him at his Buckinghamshire estate last month.

It is, of course, somewhat surprising his wife can joke about alcohol considering he has admitted almost killing her in a drunken rage 15 years ago.

Talking about the incident three years ago, he said: 'I could have got 20 years in jail. I could have killed her.

'But it happened. I can't deny it happened and I've apologised. We've made up and it's forgotten now.'

On her return, Mrs Osbourne's chat show will feature a tribute to her husband - a chronicle of his life before and after the accident.

Meanwhile, MTV said The Osbournes reality series would return with five new episodes starting in the U.S. later this month.

The former Black Sabbath singer has cancelled a forthcoming 20-date tour of Britain to give him time to recover fully from his accident.

Changes, his duet with daughter Kelly, is currently at number four in the pop charts.
