Teenager beat seals to death

A teenager has admitted killing 23 seals and seal pups with a metal pipe because he thought they were pests.
Jason Godsiff, 19, stopped at a seal colony and bludgeoned them while on his way home from work on a building site near Kaikoura on South Island, New Zealand. He admitted wilfully mistreating protected animals and will be sentenced on 13 September. He could be jailed for six months.
Co-defendant Jamaal Large, 36, is yet to submit a plea. Dave Hayes, from the department of conservation, said: "This is callous and cowardly, with newborn pups unable to defend themselves."
