Tate unveils new faces of art

Heady stuff: rubber from Nathaniel Mellors

IT IS a snapshot of art in Britain today and features artists who curator Nicolas Bourriaud calls Altermodern - alternative modern.

Featuring sculptures made from pots and pans, mechanised rubber faces, and a gargantuan-sized accordion, the exhibition presents works from up and coming contemporary artists.

For the fourth Tate triennial, Bourriaud also has work from established names such as Tacita Dean and Turner Prize winner Simon Starling.

Altermodern: Tate Triennial 2009 opens at Tate Britain tomorrow and runs until 26 April, with admission charge.
