Sweden warming to the euro

12 April 2012

SUPPORT for the euro is gathering pace in Sweden, one of only three European Union countries to be given an opt-out from the currency's launch.

A majority of Swedes, 51%, now support entry to the euro, according to a Gallup poll out today. Only 38% were opposed to euro membership while 11% were undecided. Only Sweden, Denmark and Britain will remain outside the currency when euro notes and coins are introduced on 1 January.

British supporters of the euro believe opposition in this country will soften once people going abroad get used to it.
