Star's ex-wife: we'll beat Blair

13 April 2012

The ex-wife of rock star Bryan Ferry today vowed to "bring down the Government" as she appeared in court over her role in the pro-hunting demonstration in Parliament Square last week.

Lucy Ferry, 45, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully obstructing the highway during a 10-minute hearing at Bow Street Magistrates Court in Central London.

Jackie Coward, 18, girlfriend of Mrs Ferry's son Otis, pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Otis Ferry, was one of five protesters who burst in on the Commons on the same day, causing a major security alert.

Both were given 12-month conditional discharges and ordered to pay £40 costs.

The two women arrived for their appearance in court laughing and joking and dressed in three-quarter length tweed coats, sunglasses, scarves and woolly hats.

In court Mrs Ferry said: She said: "I have quite a lot to say. It was a political statement.

"I am very angry and so are thousands and thousands of other people. This Bill is an attack on the freedom of a minority of people.

"It is a sacrifice to the backbenchers for supporting Mr Blair's other policies.

"We are disgusted by Mr Blair's lies and we can bring this Government down. Alun Michael already can't leave London. Brighton is next and we will keep fighting."

The two women left court arm in arm and went to a nearby office to pay their court costs.

Five minutes later they emerged and Mrs Ferry told waiting reporters: "What happened to the middle way in all this?

"I think hunting people are quite happy to be licensed and if Tony Blair uses the Parliament Act on this, he is going to be the laughing stock of Europe and America and anyone who has any intelligence.

"There is a solution to all this. We are not going to stop fighting."
