'Spanish shocker' to hit south

13 April 2012

Gusts of up to 50mph and heavy rain will make parts of Britain feel more like November than July this week, weather experts said today.

The Met Office predicted a "shocker" for Southern England and Wales during the next few days as a deep depression sweeps up from off the Spanish coast.

Forecasters predicted disruption in the southern half of the country as the low temperatures, gusting winds and heavy rains - around 50mm reaching 70mm in some areas - were expected over Wednesday and Thursday.

Localised flooding and fallen debris will also cause problems for travellers.

A Met Office spokesman said today: "Although not a record breaker, this weather is certainly unseasonal for July, with the combination of strong winds, heavy rain and depressed temperatures making it feel more like November."
