Southbank Centre listing denied again

The listing of most of the Southbank Centre was refused today for the third time in less than 20 years.

Heritage minister John Penrose ruled that "the architecture is poorly resolved and the structures are not unique or ground-breaking". The centre was designed in the Sixties by the GLC's architecture department.

Mr Penrose has also rejected submissions to list parts of Waterloo Station, including the former Eurostar terminal, saying they "fail to demonstrate innovative planning or structure".
