Soho nightclub shooting

A man was hurt in a shooting in Soho in the early hours today.

Police were called to Click nightclub in Wardour Street at 2.45am after reports of shots being fired.

The handgun was found under the wheel of a blue Ford Transit van parked around the corner in Peter Street after the incident.

The area was cordoned off along with a black Alfa Romeo convertible in Berwick Street.

Trident officers who investigate black-on-black gun crimes were today carrying out investigations inside the nightclub and in the street.

General manager of the club Andrew Fay said: "We were having a normal fun Thursday night when a fight broke out downstairs. Our security contained it and the group of men were taken outside.

"We closed 15 minutes early at 2.45am because of the fight and we heard that something had happened around that time but I don't know if it was the same people involved.

"Everyone was searched as they came into the club as normal."

Police said there had been a number of stop-and-searches in the area leading to arrests but refused to say how many.

A police spokesman added that the victim was taken to hospital and his injuries were not life threatening.
