Soccer star's bill for fly-tipping

12 April 2012

West Ham striker Frederic Piquionne has been ordered to pay £449 prosecution costs after admitting fly-tipping.

The French footballer drove from his home in Stapleford Abbotts, Essex, to the village of Stapleford Tawney three miles away to dump rubbish in 10 black bin bags, two recycling bags and a cardboard box on a grass verge, Harlow magistrates heard. Residents told Epping Forest district council about the rubbish and investigators traced it back to Piquionne's home.

The player, 32, was given a 12-month conditional discharge. The court heard that he left the rubbish near a wheelie bin and may have been confused by the British system of waste disposal.
