Showers for bank holiday.. and Reading Festival mudbath

12 April 2012

Londoners began their wet bank holiday getaway today as forecasters said we may have seen the last of the torrential rain.

"The story is really about improving weather over the weekend, and into next week," said Dave Britten of the Met Office. "We should see the end of the recent spell of heavy rain, although we will still see some showers."

Temperatures in London are expected to reach 20C,but a north-westerly wind will make it feel cooler. "Bank Holiday Monday is going to be the best day but it still won't be warm," said Mr Britten.

At the Reading Festival rain turned campsites into mudbaths.

Around 1.8 million Britons will leave the country by plane, boat or rail between Friday and Monday, said travel organisation Abta. On the roads, the RAC said congestion hotspots were set to include the M25, M1 in Bedfordshire, M4 in Berkshire, M23 in Sussex and the M40 in Oxfordshire.
