Seven die in Pakistan crash

12 April 2012

Investigators admit that they do not know if enemy fire or an accident caused the crash of a US military refuelling plane in western Pakistan.

Witnesses claim that the KC-130 Hercules tanker was on fire before it plunged into a mountain near the Marines base at Shamsi yesterday.

At least seven crew are presumed dead, but it is feared there may have been passengers on board. Pentagon officials say there were no reports the aircraft was fired on, but they cannot rule it out.

The crash brings to 20 the number of US servicemen killed in the campaign against Osama bin Laden, all but two of them lost in accidents or friendly-fire incidents.
