Scrap metal thieves steal war plaque

a war memorial plaque has been stolen, probably to sell as scrap metal.

The 4ft brass plate, commemorating the dead of the First World War, was prised from the wall of St Mary's Church in Lewisham High Street.

Tony Green from Bellingham Ex-Servicemen's Club, said: "I work in scrap metal and have warned places around here to keep an eye out for people selling this stuff. I hope the people who did this die the worst, most painful death."
