Parts of London were hit by flooding as torrential downpours struck the capital following weeks of hot and dry weather.

Motorists across the city were facing travel woes as roads were closed because of heavy rainfall on Friday evening.

The Met Office said “heavy inland showers” were likely to fall until the morning before “slowly dying out and eventually becoming dry”.

Londoners in North Harrow, Brent Cross, and Ealing took to social media to show the extent of the flooding in their area. Queen's Park station in north-west London was forced to close earlier due to flooding.

Fans watching Michael Buble in Hyde Park were also soaked.

Transport for London said lanes one, two and three were closed on the A406 North Circular Road just after Neasden, the Westbound A40 at Mansfield Road and the M1 Northbound were all closed.

The rainfall has will be the first glimpse of rain Londoners have seen in some time after a scorching heatwave, but forecasters have predicted the sun will return on Saturday.

In a statement, the Met Office said Saturday will be “mainly dry and very warm, with a mix of sunny spells and cloudy intervals.”

Sunday also looks to be another hot day, as forecasters predict London will see sunny spells again.
