Rémy's champagne looks flat

12 April 2012

FRENCH bubbly and brandy specialist Rémy Cointreau saw sales of its champagne brands Piper and Charles Heidsieck slump 30% to e92.7m (£57m) in the nine months to 31 December.

But with excess bubbly from millennium celebrations now largely consumed, it expects 'a progressive return of its markets from the beginning of 2002'.

Rémy confirmed sales in America rose after the 11 September terror attacks, reporting a 5% rise in US sales of VSOP cognac in the final quarter. That helped peg group Cognac sales at e300m for the first nine months. With sales of Bols and Soplica vodka up 19.7% and steady growth in rum and Metaxa Greek brandy, overall group sales grew 8.1% to e790m.
