Real London: The translator

Anne-Laure: loves Topshop, Primrose Hill and Jude Law
13 April 2012

Translator Anne-Laure Macé, 27, left the Loire Valley behind her and headed for the bright lights of London, via some sheep in Wales. She tells us what she loves about London, how she can't live without Topshop and how she'd be happy to share dinner (and a bit more) with Jude Law.

Where do you live and why? I live in Putney. It's close to the river, great for shopping and the weekend nightlife is brilliant. I've got no need to go to town!

What advice would you give to a tourist? Take the Tube to Hampstead and walk up to Primrose Hill. You can enjoy a nice glass of wine while admiring a panoramic view of London.

What would you do if you were Mayor for the day? I would organise a free drinking party in all the London squares.

Where did you last go on holiday? Edinburgh. It’s a fab city, especially when the festival is on. The forest near Peebles, about an hour’s drive from the city, is great for a day out mountain-biking.

What was the last CD you bought? It’s called Pole, a DJ from Berlin. It’s laid-back beat, funky and groovy instrumental music.

What do you miss most when you're out of London? The nightlife and Topshop!

What is your life philosophy?
“CARPE DIEM”, loads of sport and loads of French wine.

Do you have a favourite pub? Yes, The Stone and Mason Arms in Hammersmith. The food is divine, the staff so so friendly and it’s down the road from work.

What's your favourite restaurant? Moomba, just off Putney high street. They do the best fish and chips in town!

Do you find Londoners friendly? Yes, but perhaps because I’m a foreigner...

What's your idea of a perfect night out in London? A three-course dinner at the Criterion, on Piccadilly Circus, followed by a ballet (male performers only) at the Opera House.

What other jobs have you had? French Teacher in Wales. I gave up after a year to move to London as I'm scared of sheep!

How does London compare to Paris (nightlife wise)? London’s nightlife is more vibrant and extravagant!

Which do you prefer - English or French men? Neither. I have nice things to say about Australian men, though...

If you could have dinner at the Ritz with one famous Londoner, who
would it be?
Definitely Jude Law. Followed by post-dinner drinks in the best hotel suite...
