Ram Gidoomal

Ram Gidoomal arrived in London in 1967 after his family joined thousands of Asians expelled from Kenya. He went on to read Physics at Imperial College before becoming a succesful businessman. In 1998 he was awarded the CBE for services to the business community and race relations. In the 2000 mayoral election he finished fifth with 42,060 first-choice votes.
