£177,000 profit for MP's second home

12 April 2012

Disgraced MP Margaret Moran is selling a second home she funded at tax-payers' expense for a £177,000 profit.

The Luton South Labour MP is marketing for £250,000 a constituency semi she bought 15 years ago for £72,995.

In 2007 she designated it a second home and claimed £22,341 for a central heating system, refurbished bathroom and redecoration. She even claimed for a £394 hi-fi.

After that, she "flipped" properties, asserting that a Southampton flat 100 miles from the constituency and Westminster was her second home. Labour suspended her and she is standing down at the election. An estate agent's brochure describes her Luton home as "offering generous accommodation".
