£13 million TV series to tell life story of Nelson Mandela

£13 million: Nelson Mandela's life will be dramatised in a multi-million pound series
13 April 2012

The life of Nelson Mandela, right, is to be dramatised in a £13 million TV mini-series.

Entitled Madiba - Mr Mandela's clan name - the six-hour show is being co-produced by his grandson Kweku.

It will cover the events leading up to his election as South Africa's first black president and is based on two autobiographical books, Conversations With Myself and Nelson Mandela By Himself.

Frail health prevented Mr Mandela, 93, from attending celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the African National Congress.
