Protesters plan day of occupation in Trafalgar Square

Miranda Bryant12 April 2012

Hundreds of demonstrators are planning a 24-hour "occupation" of Trafalgar Square tomorrow.

More than 700 people have said they will attend the protest against cuts and "government corruption".

Organisers of Occupy Trafalgar Square for the Alternative said it was also in support of those who were arrested at last Saturday's TUC march when West End shops and businesses were targeted by thugs.

According to their website, protesters will meet at University College London before pitching their tents in Trafalgar Square at 6.30pm.

On their Facebook group they said: "This is both a place to discuss alternatives and to peacefully protest against the current Government's cuts programme." They advise protesters to come prepared with cameras, bin bags, bins and tents.
