Assault charges: Lady Amelia Spencer is accused of assaulting a taxi driver

Princess Diana's niece Lady Amelia Spencer appeared in court in South Africa today to face assault charges after a fight at a drive-through McDonald's in Cape Town.

The 18-year-old daughter of Earl Spencer stood impassively as the case was adjourned for a month.

It is alleged she attacked a taxi driver after he jumped the queue. Her lawyer said: "There is a lack of evidence and if the case didn't receive such media attention I don't think it would have got this far."
