Primary gets go-ahead to be fourth London free school

12 April 2012

A Jewish primary is the latest free school to get the go-ahead to open in London this September.

Eden Primary, previously known as the Haringey Jewish primary school, has been given Department for Education approval - the fourth free school in London to do so.

A spokesman for the school said its new name was chosen because they were looking for a title that was "genuinely Jewish but at the same time meant something real to the non-Jewish community; a name that conveyed a new beginning, nurturing new life, the birth of knowledge - and that also said something about the importance of nature in our school".

The school's budget, staffing plan, ethos and curriculum have been approved by Education Secretary Michael Gove.

It will open with a reception class in temporary accommodation in September. Next year it will move into a building in Muswell Hill next to Fortismere secondary school.
