Police take cut of speed fines

Ten more police forces have joined a speed camera scheme which lets them keep some of the proceeds from fines.

The police forces to join are Avon and Somerset, Bedfordshire, Fife, Hampshire, Leicestershire, South Yorkshire, Dyfed, Powys, West Yorkshire and Wiltshire.

Revenue from fixed penalties has trebled in a decade - -from £14.3 million in 1991 to £44.3 million in 2000.
