Police probe crash death

13 April 2012

An investigation was launched today after a motorcyclist was killed as a marked police car answered an emergency call.

Police believe Simon Bowles, 23, of Isleworth, south-west London, lost control of his bike close to his home late last night.

Following the crash, he was taken to West Middlesex Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Just before the accident Mr Bowles had been travelling ahead of a marked police car which had its lights and siren on.

The motorcyclist was not the cause of the emergency call, police said.

The two male officers in the car, based at Hounslow Borough, were not injured.

An investigation is being conducted by the Collision Investigation Unit based at Hampton Traffic Garage.

As is routine, the investigation is being overseen by the Directorate of Professional Standards.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has also been informed.
