Two police officers have been injured after a shot was fired at them during a bank robbery in Greater Manchester.

One officer was injured as a result of the weapon being fired during the raid at 9.30am today on a Barclays Bank in Horwich, near Bolton.

The second officer was also injured, but not by the weapon being fired, Greater Manchester Police said.

Both were taken to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police had been responding to reports of the robbery in progress when they were attacked.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "When officers arrived at the scene, a vehicle was seen leaving and one person got out of that car.

"It is believed a shot was fired and two officers have been taken to hospital. Neither of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening." The spokesman said no further details were available yet.
