Plea for calm over nuclear threat

South Korea is urging the United States and its allies to be calm following North Korea's declaration that it is a nuclear power.

It reminded them that brinkmanship is not a new North Korean tactic.

However, the North's announcement and its decision to pull out of six-nation disarmament talks, was "a matter of grave concern", South Korean foreign minister Ban Ki-moon said in Washington, where he arrived on a previously scheduled trip.
