Pc 'hung up on 999 calls'

12 April 2012

A policeman is under investigation over claims he hung up on 35 people who dialled 999 because he did not like the way they spoke to him.

PC Alistair Hunter's alleged behaviour came to light after a colleague reported him for swearing at a member of the public and slamming the phone down on them.

The 58-year-old, based in east London, has now been placed on restricted duties and the case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Hunter, of Bishop's Stortford, could face charges of malfeasance in public office if there is a case to answer, and the sack if convicted.
