Owner forced to control dangerous Akita dogs

12 April 2012

A dog owner has been issued with court orders to control the animals after they broke out of a compound and spread fear in a neighbourhood.

The Akitas, a Japanese breed, are said to have killed a cat and wounded two dogs after getting out of a house in Hendon. Residents said they hunted as a pack in nearby Sunny Hill Park.

Hendon Safer Neighbourhood Team took action against owner Erez Rahamim using a 19th century law that deals with stray and dangerous dogs.

Hendon magistrates ruled he must keep the dogs in a secure environment, muzzle them, keep them on a lead in public, and neuter and microchip them. Sergeant Steve Peyton said: "These animals caused considerable fear and worry."
