Outback suspect was Broadmoor inmate

A man interviewed by Australian police in connection with the outback murder of English tourist Peter Falconio spent months in a British psychiatric prison, it was revealed today.

He was arrested on 3 June for a murder in Sydney, and has a history of violence, a police source said. His name was given to detectives after the attempted abduction of Falconio's girlfriend Joanne Lees, 27, near Barrow Creek in the Northern Territory in July 2001.

Her boyfriend is believed to have been shot but his body was never found.
