Osbournes adopt new family member

12 April 2012

Sharon Osbourne, wife of rocker Ozzy, has adopted her daughter's best friend after he lost his mother to the same cancer she is battling.

The Osbournes will pay for Robert Marcato's college education and take him in as part of their family, even featuring him in the second series of their hit reality TV show.

The teenager's mother Regan, 36, died of colon cancer last week.

Sharon said Robert was currently staying at their home in Los Angeles because he does not have any family.

"We want to get him secure here, then we're going to take our time to pick the best college for him," she told the New York Post newspaper.

"Robert will be part of the show as 'Baby Osbourne' - even though he's 18. We're moving him in as part of the family."

Sharon, 49, was close to his mother and paid for her treatment during her last weeks.

She got to know Regan through Robert who has been friends with her daughters, Kelly and Aimee, for six years.

Sharon, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment, said she was doing fine. She told the newspaper: "I can kick anyone's ass right now!"

The second series of the Osbournes, which will feature Sharon's cancer treatment, is to be aired in the US this autumn.

The first series became the highest-rated series in MTV history, attracting as many as 10 million viewers per episode.

Meanwhile, Kelly Osbourne has revealed she has never seen a single episode of the show which has rocketed her to global TV fame.

"Why would I want to watch my stupid arse on TV," she said in an interview with UK rock weekly NME.

And she said she doubted that other planned fly-on-the-wall looks at celebrity lives would be as successful as The Osbournes.

"I don't think they'll work, because people have so many expectations now. Ours worked because we didn't have anything to live up to," Kelly said.

But she added: "I think the Anna Nicole Smith one might be good because she's a real weirdo."
