Online shop opens for London 2012 merchandise

THE London 2012 online shop has opened. Despite having just 250 product lines on its virtual shelves, by 2012 the website — london2012.com/shop — will have thousands on sale.

Selling official Games products is "vital" to London 2012's job of raising £2 billion to stage the Games, London 2012 chairman Lord Coe stressed.

The website is the first phase of retail plans that will eventually see London 2012 products sold at dedicated shops and other retail outlets.
Clothes, collectables and pin badges are on sale now. By this summer there will be 500 different items, including Team GB and Paralympics GB products.

Lord Coe said: "Selling Games merchandise is an important part of any Olympic Games or Paralympic Games, whether you're attending an event or just want to celebrate the Games."
