On track for 2012 after bus dash

12 April 2012

A Londoner is aiming for Olympic glory after being spotted sprinting for a bus.

Jeffrey Lawal Balogun was 19 when a top athletics club scout saw his dash in Bromley. Now, three years on, the runner is hoping to be part of Team GB for the 2012 London Games.

Mr Balogun, who lives in Mottingham and is ranked seven in the UK for the 60-metre sprint, said: "I always knew I was fast but I didn't know how to get into running.

"Then one day I was on my way to college and had to run after the bus. A girl came up to me afterwards and asked if I ran with a club.

"I never thought running after a bus would lead to all this. And the funny thing is, I missed it."
