Off to the slopes, Essex girl who could hardly ski

Acrobatics: Sarah Ainsworth
12 April 2012

Skier Sarah Ainsworth boasts the distinction of being the only Essex girl at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The journey from Brentwood to the peaks of British Columbia is made even more remarkable as until three years ago she could hardly ski.

The 24-year-old was taking part in a trampolining exhibition at a ski show when scouts persuaded her she should transfer her talent to the slopes.
She is due to compete on Cypress Mountain in aerial ski-ing — a mix of acrobatics and downhill ski-ing.

Ainsworth says although she is not a medal contender in the event, "I'm an Essex girl and I'm determined to do the county proud".
