Notting Hill Carnival dog warning

12 April 2012

Police today warned dog owners to keep their pets away from Notting Hill Carnival this weekend.

In a message aimed at owners of dangerous pitbull-type dogs, police said they would seize animals they considered a threat to safety at the event.

At last year's Carnival, police seized 20 suspected pitbulls. Police spokesman Chief Inspector Jo Edwards said: "Dogs and Carnival should not mix. People can be intimidated by potentially dangerous dogs, especially in such a crowded environment."

Police have arrested 17 people so far in an operation to clamp down on troublemakers before the Carnival, including a 14-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs.
